The Kingfisher Singers
The Kingfisher Singers is a mixed voiced choir which has been in existence for over thirty years. It was started by a few people who worked for the local hospitals who wanted to enjoy singing and raise money for local charities. It is run on the same basis today. Davina Brisley who originally sang with the choir took over the leadership in 1991. Davina came from a very musical family and from a small child played the piano and sang, winning many prizes in music festivals. At the age of 18 she had a very successful children’s choir and then continued her training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Her only claim to notoriety is that she once trained a youth choir for Donald Swann of Swann and Flanders fame. She is now ably assisted by pianist Karen Riches whose musical career started at Medway School of Music, followed by working for Yamaha demonstrating keyboards. She is now a school music teacher, plays for a theatre school, as well as several choirs, and has played all genres of music from Rock to Classics. We are extremely lucky to have her! Our repertoire consists of songs from the shows, secular and religious music. The choir practices at St Luke’s Church, City Way, Rochester from 7.45pm until 10.00pm on a Tuesday evening. We are a very friendly crowd and often meet socially. We welcome new members and we are looking for a few younger voices, particularly 1st sopranos to enhance our sound. If you are interested in joining us or would like to book the choir for a concert or an event please contact Davina on 01634 387249.
This year the choir has agreed that we would like to support HIPS as our charity of the year. We are unable to give an estimate of the money to be donated, as it is dependent on the number of concerts and the generosity of the sponsor of each concert.
