Boxing Day Lords vs Ladies Rugby Match 26th December 2016

The fun kicked off at 12.00 on Boxing Day with the Lords mens team, captained by Chris Callaway, playing with their right hand bound in a bubble wrap ‘boxing glove’. The Ladies, captained by Chloe were excellent, and had been training hard for several months, and dutifully whooped the Lords to a secure a stunning victory with a score of 19-10.

The referee, Nick Ward (also a trustee of HIPS) obviously applied the rules of rugby fairly and equitably, and had to sort out some rather unusual play such as carrying a Lady with the ball, down the pitch!

The Ladies played superbly, and in their beautiful kit of pink and black, they challenged the Lords and promised an even keener game next year in what is fast developing into an annual event.

Family and friends of players and HIPS came together to cheer on both teams and enjoy the spectacle. Lordswood Sports and Social Club provided an excellent BBQ and of course, the bar was open!

The Ladies celebrated their momentous victory by draining their hard-won trophy of vodka and orange and were presented by HIPS Trustees with their winners mugs especially designed to mark the event.

In the bar after the match, the wonderful spectators and players showed their generous support for HIPS by taking part in a very well-supported raffle and bus stop event.

In total, the event raised over £860 profit for providing children with complex needs social time and fun events.

Well done to all involved, and a big, big, thank you to all who so generously gave their time, effort and cash to make the event such a success.
